Stewart started in the IT industry as a developer before moving into the realms of infrastructure, support and operations and became a “Full Stack” professional before the term was invented. Prior to becoming Head of IT at Big Society Capital, he worked at a wide variety of different organisations from running his own IT consultancy firm to a multi-national corporate, recently having been Operations Director at an Energy Management software house and Head of IT at an insurance broker and housing association. Whilst the IT industry as a whole is dismissive of experience and credulous of short-term fads, Stewart possesses a critical eye and makes use of his extensive experience in assessing technologies for their real-world usefulness rather than being taken in by the hype. Stewart is a proponent of the use of Lean techniques in IT support and operations as a real-world response to the challenging nature of trends in IT rather than old-school methodologies such as ITIL.
